As an all-around air purifier, the Allerair air 5000 and 6000 purifiers are just alright.
Unfortuneately, Allerair has confusing options/models. But no fears, we'll sort them out and tell you which ones you should buy and which ones to pass on.
Allerair air purifiers have the most, and the best, carbon in their filtration system in the industry. From 18 pounds to a truck-loadish 36 pounds, to be exact.
Why is this important?
Any HEPA or HEPA-like filter cannot filter gasses and finer elements of tobacco smoke. They're just too small. You'll need carbon in your filter. 
Allerairs have a very thick carbon bed, which means the air spends more time in it as it passes through, absorbing more of those harmful gasses, etc.
All Allerair air purifiers also have a pre-filter, a HEPA filter in addition to the carbon filter, and some models have a mediocre anti-microbial filter and or an optional UV light. (I'll sort that all out for you in a minute)
Who Should Buy The Allerair Air Purifiers?
You should buy an Allerair air purifier if you have special needs getting rid of lots of tobacco smoke, odor, or harmful gasses and volatile organic compounds or have what is known as 'Multiple Chemical Sensitivities.'
Otherwise, the lesser amounts of carbon in other air purifiers such as our best air purifier picks should be adequate.
Here's why: The Allerair air purifiers only do a 'good' not best job at filtering other particles. They're very heavy. They're not very quiet, except on the very lowest speed.
I do like than you can refill the carbon yourself cheaper than buying a carbon filter, and that most filters last 3-5 years.
If are interested in that incredible carbon capacitiy, which one should you buy?
Generally, the only differences between the 5000 and 6000 line are that the 6000 has some anti-microbial properties and even more carbon than the 5000's. The 6000 probably overkills to the point of shooting a mouse with an elephant gun for all but the most senstive people.
For getting rid of Volatile Organic Compounds, gasses, and odors, buy the Allerair 5000 or 6000 VOCARB air purifiers. (The regular Allerair 5000 and 6000 Exec's do not filter out VOC's)
For filtering cigarette or wildfire smoke, the Alleair DS (Double Smoke) air purifier is king of the mountain among all air purifiers. Best air purifier for smoking areas, bars, etc.
