HONEYWELL AIR PURIFIER GETS A GRADE 'B-'

honeywell air cleaner The Honeywell air purifier is simply ok.

I don't mean to dog the Honeywell air purifier. It does a decent job at average air purification. But I think there are better choices.

The Honeywell offers standard HEPA air purification, 99.7 percent of all particles .3 microns and larger, with a supposed lifetime HEPA filter.

An additional carbon prefilter will do away with some odors, and will have to be replaced every several months.

While this is okay, the best air purifiers filter out .1 microns and .003 microns and larger.

This means that the Honeywell air cleaner will filter out your average dust, pollen, and other nuisance items. It will not adequately filter out odors, harmful gasses, and smaller particles.

The Honeywell does include an indicator light that informs you when to clean the supposed lifetime HEPA filter.

The circular design promotes air intake from all sides, and puts fresh air out of the top. This is a good idea.

Despite these features, the honeywell is noisy, and consumes more power than some of the best air purifiers.

At $150-200, the honeywell is a very cheap air purifier. Consider however that you will be paying more in electricity and getting grade 'B' performance and aesthetics.

Summary:

  • Average HEPA filtration means some good will be done...but it's not among the best
  • Okay design with some better than average features including filter cleaning reminder.
  • Noisy ...you'll have to decide if this is important to you
  • Supposed Lifetime HEPA but is more expensive to electricity costs
  • Moderate carbon prefilter needs to be replaced every several months...less than ideal

Really, the Honeywell air purifier is better than no air purifier.

And it's not a rip off or scam like so many other air purifiers. But there are so many better choices.

If cost is your limiting factor I would suggest a Hunter Quietflo or a Austin Air Purifier instead of the Honeywell Air Purifier. If you can afford a little more, move up to the Blueair line--my top pick.

If you still believe that the Honeywell air purifier is for you, I would secure one from iqair air cleanermy favorite air purifier site, Achoo!Allergy.

Achoo!Allergy has earned my trust. They are small enough to provide thoughtful, caring, and knowledgable customer service, and large enough to really provide great prices, all with free shipping and a 60 day, no hassle return policy.
