IS THE IONIC PRO AIR PURIFIER AN AMATEUR?

Prior to the emergence of the Ionic Pro air purifier...

The Sharper Image's Ionic Breeze air purifier rock-starred its way into air purifier industry:

ionic pro air filter...Sold millions of units at an inflated price and later burned out.

After dealing with the Ionic Breeze air purifier problems with putting out harmful ozone, the Sharper Image declared bankruptcy in February of 2008.

THE REINCARNATION A LOSER...

The Ionic Pro air purifier has swooped in to pick off anyone still unaware of the failures and inadequacies of the Ionic Breeze, and they essentially say so on their web site...

"Does the Ionic Pro function the same as the Ionic Breeze?"

"Both Ionic Pro ionic air purifiers and the Sharper Image Ionic Breeze air purifier silently circulate air by first putting a positive charge into the air and then attracting the air with negatively charged collection plates."

--FAQ page, Ionic Pro Website

This is one of two statements where the company makes no effort to distinguished themselves from the Ionic Breeze.

Why?

The Ionic Breeze was a huge seller, still generates lots of interest to this day, and the Ionic Pro is interested in simply stepping into that stream and making money off the publicity.

The ionic pro air purifier also carries on the legacy of making deceptive claims like "traps particles as small as one micron"

What they mean is it may trap those particles. But it won't trap all or even many of them.

How does it fail thee? Let me count the ways...

Since the Ionic Pro air cleaner offers very little difference than the Ionic Breeze, it shares the same problems...

  • With no fan to circulate air, air doesn't move quickly enough through the unit to clean air well.
  • Even if the air did move through the Ionic Pro air purifier, charged metal plates are simply inadequate at filtering air. The gaps are simply way too large.
  • Any ionic air purifier has the potential to produce too much ozone, which is harmful to lungs, heart, and general health.
  • The metal plates need to be cleaned weekly, if not more often. It's been said they also can become very difficult to clean, especially with tar from smoke.
  • The charged particles that don't stick to the plates can end up sticking elsewhere: walls, furniture, maybe even lungs. Not good.

Summary:

Friends, setting up a fan in front of a cheesecloth would be a better choice than the Ionic Pro air purifier.

Little air movement, poor filtering system, inconvenient, potentially harmful to health.

Seriously.

Don't waste your money or your health.

For an excellent choice, try the Blueair line instead.
_________
P. S. The fact that Ionic Pro offers you, when you go to buy an air purifier on their website:

1) a vitamin product trial with automatic recurring shipping and charges
2) a hand-held data bank(?!)
3) a "personal ionic" to wear around your neck
4) a free freshwater pearl necklace (?!?!?!?)

at their sales page, (pay shipping of $3.95 for each of course) should tell you something about this company.

In fact, read any of my air purifier reviews and get a better choice than the amateur Ionic Pro air purifier.
